Chemical peel treatment is a process where a chemical solution enhances skin texture and tone by peeling away damaged outer layers. Sun exposure, acne, and aging can result in uneven, wrinkled, spotted, or scarred skin.

The application of a chemical solution causes the skin to “blister” and eventually peel off, revealing smoother, brighter, and more youthful skin. This outpatient procedure doesn’t require anesthesia, as it is non-invasive.

Before undergoing a chemical peel, individuals may need to follow specific instructions for 2 to 4 weeks, enhancing the overall results. Recovery post-procedure varies from person to person.

In certain situations, Dr. Sakhiya may recommend specific creams to address pigmentation issues. It is crucial to choose the right formulation based on individual cases. Following a thorough analysis of the issue, Dr. Sakhiya might prescribe medicated gels or creams tailored to counter pigmentation, lighten the skin, or achieve both effects.

In addition to creams, tablets may also be prescribed to expedite the procedure. This comprehensive approach aims to provide effective and targeted treatment for pigmentation concerns.

Microdermabrasion is a quick and effective skin procedure utilizing tiny exfoliating crystals to remove dead and dull skin. These crystals are skillfully sprayed on the skin, catering to all skin types. The procedure is fast, with no downtime or side effects.

This treatment is highly beneficial for restoring an even skin tone, eliminating blemishes, and achieving radiant, glowing skin.

Post-procedure, patients are advised to apply sunscreen and moisturize the skin properly for optimal results.

Laser treatment for pigmentation achieves flawless results by utilizing short pulsating beams of laser to eliminate skin pigmentation.

Various types of lasers are employed, including ablative and non-ablative lasers. Ablative lasers work on superficial skin layers, vaporizing tissue to initiate a healing process that boosts collagen production. These lasers are excellent for stubborn sun tan and pigmentation removal.

Non-ablative lasers, stronger and penetrating deeper layers, promote collagen production and skin growth. They are particularly useful for addressing long-term sun damage, heavy pigmentation, and similar concerns.

Skin pigmentation is determined by the production of melanin, a pigment generated by specialized skin cells known as melanocytes. Numerous genes, totaling more than a hundred and fifty, have a direct or indirect influence on skin tone. These genetic factors play a significant role in shaping an individual’s natural skin pigmentation, thereby determining their skin tone. However, skin pigmentation can be disrupted by a variety of internal and external factors, resulting in an uneven skin tone and the development of dark patches on the skin.

Skin pigmentation disorders can result from an abnormal production of melanin, leading to either excessive (hyperpigmentation) or deficient (hypopigmentation) melanin levels, causing the skin to appear either darker or lighter than usual, or blotchy and stained.

The root causes are often attributed to internal factors such as hormones, epithelial tissue cells, or biological conditions like pregnancy. External factors like UV exposure, burns, or contact with chemicals may also contribute to pigmentation disorders. Stress and dietary imbalances are known to affect skin pigmentation as well.

In pigmentation disorders, melanin production involves a series of oxidative reactions that occur in the presence of the amino acid tyrosine and the enzyme tyrosinase, which can either alter or halt melanin production.

Some common skin pigmentation disorders include:

  1. Melasma: Melasma appears as tan or brown patches on the face, particularly on the forehead, cheeks, upper lip, nose, and chin. It is commonly seen in pregnant women and may persist post-pregnancy. Melasma can also result from factors like birth control pill use, postmenopausal estrogen, or nutritional deficiencies. Men can develop melasma as well.
  2. Vitiligo: Vitiligo is an autoimmune pigmentation disorder where the body’s immune system attacks pigment cells, resulting in smooth, white skin patches. These patches are often found around the mouth and eyes or on the back of the hands. In some cases, the discoloration can affect the entire body. Vitiligo can also occur in individuals with immune system disorders such as diabetes, pernicious anemia, thyroid disease, or Addison’s disease.
  3. Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation/Hypopigmentation: Skin infections, tans, sunburns, blisters, burns, or other skin traumas can lead to increased (hyperpigmentation) or decreased (hypopigmentation) pigmentation in the affected area.
  4. Albinism: Albinism is an inherited disorder characterized by the absence of melanin pigment in the skin, hair, and eyes.
  5. Freckles: Freckles are small, dark spots that often appear in clusters, particularly on the nose, cheeks, upper shoulders, and arms.

Dr. Siddharth Sakhiya conducts a visual examination to assess the extent of the pigmentation disorder, and based on the results, recommends a clinical pigmentation treatment.

The specific treatment required for each patient is determined during the consultation, following a thorough analysis. In certain cases, pigmentation can be reduced using topical creams or products.
