Breast Reduction

Breast Reduction surgery, also known as Reduction Mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure that entails the removal of excess skin, fat, and breast tissue from the patient’s breasts. This surgery aims to reduce breast size while simultaneously shaping and lifting the breasts.

Reduction Mammaplasty is chosen by women for various reasons, including:

  1. Excessively large breasts – Macromastia, a medical condition characterized by excessively large breasts, can lead to significant physical discomfort and embarrassment. This discomfort includes shoulder pain, back pain, and changes in nipple-areola sensation.
  2. Disproportionate or asymmetrical breasts – Some women may have breasts that are not proportionate to their body or breasts that are asymmetrical in shape.
  3. Mental stress – Large breasts can cause psychological distress for many women, impacting their self-confidence and self-esteem.

If you meet the following criteria, you are an ideal candidate for Breast Reduction surgery:

  1. A healthy woman experiencing physical or psychological issues due to large breasts.
  2. A woman with fully developed breasts.
  3. A woman with realistic expectations regarding the surgery’s outcome.
  4. A non-smoker without diabetes or cardiac issues.
  5. A woman who is neither pregnant nor currently breastfeeding.

In the week preceding the surgery, your doctor will request routine blood tests and possibly recommend a mammography to establish a baseline for future reference. You might be advised to discontinue some of your regular medications to prevent potential conflicts with the surgery. If you are a smoker, it will be necessary to quit smoking in the weeks leading up to the procedure.

After surgery, your doctor will monitor you for a day and discharge you either on the same day or the following day.

Your cosmetic surgeon will provide detailed instructions for breast care during the recovery period and prescribe medication to ensure your comfort and prevent infections.

You should limit physical activity for a few weeks post-surgery, and the timing for resuming routine activities should be discussed with your doctor. Your recovery period may range from 2 to 4 weeks.

The results of your surgery will gradually become evident as your body heals and rejuvenates in the aftermath of the procedure.

The cost of breast reduction surgery is influenced by several factors, including:

  1. The specific procedure performed for breast reduction.
  2. The unique characteristics of your case.
  3. The location of the clinic and the experience of the doctor.

As a result, it is not possible to provide a ballpark figure for this surgery. Your surgeon will provide you with an actual cost estimate after your consultation.
